The Month of March

In the US March marks the end of Black History month and begins Women's History month. There are so many festivals and holidays in this month, I wouldn't b e able to name them all. But here are some.

Doesn't get much more 'Merican than this

Texas independence day is a state-wide holiday celebrated on March second. A couple of other places celebrate their independence days, such as Bosnia and Bangladesh. Movements that led to independence are also observed in South Korea and Greece. Iceland, on the other hand, celebrate Beer Day on the first of March - so far I like Iceland's the best. March also holds the death date of the man who to a republic and made it an empire, Julius Cesar, March 15th.

As with any month of the year obscure day of something are inevitably going to show up in the US. Like national Pig Day on the first and National Reading Day on following day. World Wildlife Day on the third. Pi Day on the 14th (3/14 get it?) and that is also known as Save a Spider Day, here's looking at you people with very mild arachnophobia, just for a day spare an arachnid friend. And last but not least Cesar Chavez day.

That's not to say the rest of the world doesn't have it's own relatively unknown holidays like Peasant's Day in Burma and Victory at Adwa day in Ethiopia. Malawi celebrates Martyr's Day on the same day Georgia and Egypt celebrate Mother's day and Sportsman's Day respectively, March third.

I'm sure everyone in the US knows the one holiday in March where everyone is a Irish for a day, St. Patrick's day! Celebrated with drinking and Shamrock Shakes, or is that just me?
