News Bits number 3

Today is the Spring Equinox, marking it the first day of spring, and here in Delaware it is snowing... Now, I don't know about you, but when I think of Spring snowfall isn't the first thing to pop in my mind. Maybe melting snow, sure that's acceptable, but fresh big chunks of snow falling and making the roads slippery is a whole other story. Well, it is what it is here in Delaware.

Another day, another week, another News Bits.

2022 World Cup

If you hadn't heard, the world cup in 2022 is going to be held in Qatar. Now, I don't know how much you've heard or know of the State of Qatar but I'll give you a little background. It is a small sovereign Arab country located in Southwest Asia on the Arabian Peninsula. That's all well and good, but if you follow the world cup at all you would know that it is held every four years - in the summer. In case you were wondering how hot it gets in the Arabian Peninsula during the time the world cup is supposed to be held here you go:

That's right. If that year decides to be on the high side of the avarage you can expect temperatures of over 38° C or over 100° F. And FIFA expects people to play football soccer in that type of weather. Any sport, really, would be excruciating to play under those conditions. Well, they realized this and so then they moved the world cup that is a summer event to the winter. The world cup, which, to me, signifies a great summer, is now to be held in November and December.

I'm not very happy to say the least, but nothing that can be done about it. Just thought my readers should know.

Glastonbury Festival

The Glastonbury music festival is held in Pilton, Somerset, England. It is a festival to celebrate the arts such as dance, theater, circus and of course music. Set to headline this year is Kanye West and an education worker named, Niel Lonsdale is not too happy with it. He started a petition on change.org to remove him from the festival. He calls West "an insult to music fans all over the world."

Looks like not everyone loves Kanye as much as Kanye loves himself. At the time of this writing the petition has over 89,000 supporters. Well good for Mr. Lonsdale, who took it upon himself to try and rid a festival celebrating the arts of a megalomaniacal and narcissistic man. The link is here if you would like to join in and sign the petition. I did.

Cross Country Cat

During a routine U-Haul inspection of the truck, in Southern California, the inspector heard something out of the ordinary, meowing. When he took a closer look he saw an orange tabby had been in the truck. The driver who rented the truck was unaware of his traveling companion. The cat was taken to a shelter and found to be dehydrated but in otherwise good health. The microchip was traced back across the country to South Carolina. The tabby turned up in early March and when the owner, Cheryl Walls, was contacted she informed them Kevin, the orange tabby's name, had been lost for over two years!

Walls jokes Kevin has actually seen more of the country than her. Seeing he is in good health, someone must have taken care of him, but who is a mystery. As well as how he came to be in the truck in the first place. He is now on his way back home to Anderson, South Carolina.
